benzino: Thanks keke for the answer! I've found this information in release notes to 3.0.3 which I think should I read at first:
There is a command line switch -t available to force smsd to run in terminal (foreground). If logging or debugging messages are printed to the terminal, smsd runs in foreground by default. There is also TERMINAL keyword available in the Makefile to force smsd to run in foreground.

Is this possible to run smsd in foreground other than with "-s" switch?
With the "-s" switch the smsd is running in foreground but the "status" file is not updated.
I've noticed that "terminal mode" make smsd run in foreground and "status" file is updated, but I'm not sure that this switch (terminal mode) is made for it ...
I'm asking because some solutions (i.e. Docker, supervisord, ...) need process not to "demonize"
Generally I need smsd to run is foreground and update "status" file.
