lextor: Dear people of SMStools3. I used your soft some years ago without any problem, but my laptop crashes and I lost the files.
Today I want to reload the app and made the same instructions of the past years, but I find the following message when I try to compile the soft.
I tried three differents times with the same result.
¿can you help me with that?. The following is the result obtained:
Carlos@Carlos-PC /usr/src/smstools3
$ make
cd src && make -
make[1]: se entra en el directorio \'/usr/src/smstools3/src\'
Makefile:51: *** las instrucciones comenzaron antes del primer objetivo. Alto.
make[1]: se sale del directorio \'/usr/src/smstools3/src\'
Makefile:10: fallo en las instrucciones para el objetivo \'compile\'

lextor: Dear KEKE:
Nice to contact you again:
I always with the same problem : Some days I can send a lot of SMS with the SMSD software and another days, its impossible to send SMS at all (with the same equipment and the same configuration file and with the same modem)
But today a made a test, with very interesting result for me:
1- I start to send SMS with one modem, and sent 10 o 15 SMS without any problem. After that, the ERROR 500 appear and stop sending at all. (see smsd log file)
2 - In this point, I kill the process, and start a little application that came with the modem and from my operator (Personal). With this software I sent 4 or 5 SMS without problems.
3 - After that, I stopped the process, and restart the smsd . The ERROR 500 appear inmediatly.
I install a Monitor software (Advanced USB Port Monitor) and try to capture the dialog with the operator software and with the smsd software.
I only capture the operator operation (see the file), because the smsd not allow me capture the dialog.
In this point I arrived at two conclusions:
a) There is a network problem. Because some days I can send, and some days (mostly), I can`t.
b) There is a different dialog with the two software, and seems that the operator software, has a little difference that permit send SMS, in the same "bad network scenario"
I send you by mail the two files (the operator trace and the smsd log file)
I don`t know if you can help me with this, but I appreciate very much your hand
Thanks a lot

lextor: Dear Keke:
Thank you for your concern.
The actual situation is that isn´t one place where I can work with more than one or two modems (in the same or differents machines).
If I work with one modem, the speed of sending is about 5 or 6 sms per minute
When I put two more modems in the same place (in differents machines), the speed decrease to 1 or 2 sms per minute per modem (in fact, the same result with more modems), and the ERROR 500, increase a lot.
The only way I can get 15 or 18 sms per minute, is with 3 machines in different places with one modem each.
When I try to increase one modem in any machine, the speed mantain a good rate for 15 or 20 minutes. After that the ERROR 500 appear again.
The rate changes with the hour of the day too.( in peak hours the situation is worst)

Please help me!
Today when I try to start smsd, I get the following log:
Smsd v3.1.14 started.
Running as Administrador Ninguno.
Infofile /var/run/smsd.working cannot be created No such file or directory
Running startup_check (shell) /var/spool/sms/incoming/smsd_script.wTA49Y /tmp/smsd_data.euwvMf
Done startup_check (shell), execution time 0 sec., status 0 (0)
There was 1 major problem found.
Smsd mainprocess terminated.
Before that I was working with my private smsd, and get the same result. I update the smsd version but nothing happens.
Yesterday I send messages all the day with the same configuration
What can be happen?
Thanks

lextor: Keke:
The operators have "speciall offers" to send messages, with a direct connection to the SMSC, but the price of each SMS is about 30 to 50 times to the client. Of course, there is "special clients" (with some relation of the operator), who made the same business of sending SMS, and with a special price.
The only way to play in the same field is to buy simple "packets" of SMS (with a limit time to send it), and send it by modems, but with the results I get.
One more thing: I check the signal and it´s not a relation between the level of the signal and the number of errors.
Now I will change to the latest version of SMSD and continues the tests.
Thanks for your collaboration

lextor: Dear Keke:
I want to discuss with you the new test I made. (with my private version of smsd at today)
- I install the laptop with the smsd running IN MY CAR with one modem, and went away far of my office
- I found differents areas in my trip. Areas of a lot of "500Errors", areas of zero "500Errors", and areas with a medium percentage.
- I have a friend office in one of the area of 0 errors, and I install there the laptop and send a lot of messages of about 8 hours (at 6 or 7 sms per minute).
- After that I tried to increase the number of modems (3), in the same place and again the 500 errors appears.
- I reduce the number of modems to 2, and still get the errors but in minor number.
- To discharge the possibiliy of a smsd problem, I install two differents laptop with one modem each, and obtain the same result. Conclusion ; Is not a smsd problem, is a gsm network problem.
- In the last test. I install again my laptop WITH 3 MODEMS in my car and went out, . In this situation the applications send 16 / 18 sms per minute , without errors, for at least two hours,
Conclusion: I need to install my office in a van or motorhome to obtain goods results. It´s a good way to travel and know new places but it´s not cheap.
I don´t think (with these results), if a change of technology of modems result in a difference. These is a problem of network, (congestion of channels or operator´s strategy to mantain the number of sms or calls in a certain level)
The best solution for me is a distribution of differents machines in differents places and change that as soon as possible.
I wait for your comments. Thanks for all.

lextor: Dear Keke:
About Four or five km.
- I think these is a mix problem between the network and the modem (speccialy the network). For example, today works in the morning with a few errors.
But in the afternoon the situation becomes unworkable.
In this situation is very difficult to find the solution, because, when I make changes in the smsd conf file, I´m not sure that the network conditions are the same.
I´m getting another modems and a hub usb, (for the power problem ), and tell you the results.
Thanks for everything

Sorry , I forgot answer your question. The result is the same, for a several minutes works fine, and after that I get the same errors.
About your question of Huawei previous performance, I haven´t data because I tried to start to send a lot of SMS messages with smsd and the Huawei modems simultaneously.
Before that, my experience with SMS was only with my Samsung telephone (And I hate send and receive SMS...)
I am looking for another modem, but I don´t find yet the model of BenQ you said me.

This is the answer
AT+COPS?
+COPS: 0,2,"72234",0
There is no difference with the SYSCFG command.
There is an pc application of the operator ("Personal" is of the France Telecom group), that allow to set a network exclusively (WCDMA or EDGE-GSM).
I try to set first EDGE-GSM only and after that WCDMA only , but the errors still appear

lextor: Dear Keke:
I had a little problem with the upgrade of SMSD , because an error of compilation ( I need another package of Cygwin)
After that , I updated the application and run it in both machines.
I´d uploaded to you three files. one log "lp one modem" (laptop), one log "pc one modem", and one log "lp two modems"
I´m very lost about the problem. In the first minutes seems work very well, but after a few minutes I get the errors again.
It seems like the modems need a "reset" time to time.
I don´t know if is it a network problem, because at the same hour, the two machines works very different.
One question : ¿this version of SMSD get only more information or have anything else?
Thank you again. Lextor

No, unfortunatly no.
Today I try some modifications in SMSD conf file (for example senddelay =5), and the program runs much better in the PC but not in the laptop (with one modem each).
I´m going to test with a hub usb with power supply.

lextor: Keke :
In first place , thank you for your concern
I answer your questions:
1 - The laptop is about 2 metres from the PC. If both machines work with one modem each, (with identical smsd.conf), the system of the PC, seems to work better than the laptop. Of course, this situation become critical with two modems at the laptop (I can´t install two modems in the PC)
2 - In both machines, the systems start normally (without ERROR 500), for 15 or 20 minutes, after that , in both machines the errors appear and the speed comes down. It seems a GSM´s network problem.
3 - Tomorrow I test to move the laptop near the Pc, and see what happens. After that I have two more machines to work together (in different places in the office), and I will analyse the results of the test.
4 - At least, is possible the power problem. I check that with the different machines, and tell you what I find.
thanks again

Ok, I try these commands now,
- The sticks hasn´t external antennas, they seems like memory sticks
- The computer is a laptop, there are two USB connectors in one side (with separation about 4 or 5 ", and the other to the other side of the laptop
- There are connected directly to the laptop, and there are no alarms of power . ( in other machines I receive an alarm that the power is not enough for that kind of element)

lextor: Dear KekeÑ
Today I will make the changes and send a log for you.
But I don´t think this is the problem.
When I send SMS with two modems (one on a computer, one in another), the two modems works fine (at 6 or 8 SMS per minute each). The modems are in the same GSM network and receive the same amount of status reports
After that , I put the two modems in the same machine, and the speed decrease at 5 or 6 SMS in total (the two modems). Again, the network is the same and the amount of status reports are the same.
By the way, the two machines are P IV with 4 Gbs of ram.
With 3 modems , the amount of SMS sended , don´t increase ( never pass of 10 SMS per minute IN TOTAL)
For that, I´m working now with two modems (in different computers), because I haven´t any advantage to include anothe one.
This is not a normal operation for me.
Thanks a lot

lextor: Dear Keke
There is my answers
1 - My problem is always the same. I can´t send SMS with various modems without a loss of speed (1 modem= 6 or 8 sms per minute, 3 modems = 1 or 2 SMS per minute per modem). For that, I don´t have advantage to aggregate any modem.
2 - I have two computers. One with 1 modem and other with 2 or 3 modems
Now, both with the last version of SMSD. The log file I send you, correspond to the computer with only one modem.
3- I obtain 1 sms per 6 or 10 seconds (that is fine for me)
4 - Yes, I have "Mode"s. You can see that in the log file
5 - Ok . I will do that , and tell you the results.
Before your answer, I read in the community, different issues about "ERROR 500". I found the possibility of inclusion of "memory_start =0"
I didnt know if it applies to my problem, but I changed that, and seems work much better.
Now, I include your statements and tell you the results (in both machines)
Thanks for your help
