Name and model of a modem: IISA (argentinian modem) / 9600 baudios

Dear, I've installed smstools in my Debian Squeeze box with an attached serial GSM modem.
From my cell phone, I send SMS's to the modem and they arrive successfully.
The problem is when I send SMS's, I do it through the sendsms script, but I always fail. If I send SMS's via minicom wuth AT commands, they are sent OK.
After sending a SMS, I get an incoming error SMS in /var/spool/sms/incoming saying:
Error: Cannot decode PDU, see text part for details.

Next tried with PDU mode old (without CSA):
PDU ERROR: Position 5,2: Invalid recipient address length: "45"
No success. This PDU cannot be decoded. There is something wrong.
If you are unsure, confused or angry, please view the GSM 03.40

PDU format. You can also get some help via the Support Website.
My /etc/smsd.conf is:
devices = GSM1
outgoing = /var/spool/sms/outgoing
checked = /var/spool/sms/checked
incoming = /var/spool/sms/incoming
logfile = /var/log/smstools/smsd.log
infofile = /var/run/smstools/smsd.working
pidfile = /var/run/smstools/smsd.pid
autosplit = 3
loglevel = 7
[GSM1]
device = /dev/ttyS0
incoming = yes
baudrate = 9600
What can I do ???
THANKS IN ADVANCE !!!

alejandritox: Thanks, but how can I define the GSM Gateway device en the smstools config file ???
Because the file defines:
[GSM1]
device = /dev/ttyUSB0
and if my GSM device is not local, can I do this definition:
[GSM1]
device = IP_GSM_Gateway
Please tell me the way.
Thanks a lot.

alejandritox: Operating system name and version: Debian Lenny
Version of smsd: 3.1-2
Smsd installed from: Debian package repository
Name and model of a modem / phone: Portech MV-372 GSM Gateway
Interface: LAN
Dear, I have a monitoring server (Nagios) who need to send SMS's through my Portech GSM Gateway. Both monitoring server and GSM Gateway are connected through LAN.
I think if my GSM device is a serial modem, it's easy to send SMS's.
But, is it possible for smstools to send SMS's messages through a GSM device (gateway in this case) connected via a LAN interface (Ethernet) ??? Or how can I do that ???
Special thanks.
