Hi, i encountered this problem and i tried
chmod 775 /dev/ttyS0
still no luck...

im using cygwin btw..

I assume that you have already resolved this issue?

Just check who owns the port ( ls -l /dev/com1 ) and check which account is used to run smsd. Then adjust permissions, if necessary.

I am sure that the ttyS0 is correct, i tested it and tried sending a message through minicom and it went through, i can also read message from the phone. i received the message. but whenever i try to send a message to the phone connected to my computer, nothing is received. /var/spool/sms/incoming is empty.

Probably you had resolved these issues too? At least you could check the permissions of a smsd.log file. If you still have problem with receiving, please show the log file and use code tags.

Another tip for users having this same problem on Windows using cygwin, make sure that no other program is using your com port. Be it hyperterminal or if you are using vmware, disconnect first your serial port in your virtual machine.
