I assume that you have already resolved this issue?

Just check who owns the port ( ls -l /dev/com1 ) and check which account is used to run smsd. Then adjust permissions, if necessary.

hello,
is it normal to have this error when you run sms3 on terminal as an ordinary user? because i always have to login as root before i can run sms3 or else i get the error below:

I'm having a problem, i've been figuring this out for almost 6 hours already.

this is the simplest smsd.conf file of mine

Then i started the smsd

I am sure that the ttyS0 is correct, i tested it and tried sending a message through minicom and it went through, i can also read message from the phone. i received the message. but whenever i try to send a message to the phone connected to my computer, nothing is received. /var/spool/sms/incoming is empty.

what's goin on? :(

Probably you had resolved these issues too? At least you could check the permissions of a smsd.log file. If you still have problem with receiving, please show the log file and use code tags.

Also, please do not put questions as an answer to the old topic which is not owned by you. This is because those posts are not answers to the original question and the owner of a topic will get an e-mail notification each time when a new answer is posted...

Another tip for users having this same problem on Windows using cygwin, make sure that no other program is using your com port. Be it hyperterminal or if you are using vmware, disconnect first your serial port in your virtual machine.
