The logs indicate Cinterion MC55i, but it actually "Novatel Wireless Incorporated" model "Expedite EU850D MiniCard"

I was just writing the same answer, but I was late...

Anyways, this is very common issue, and latest versions of smstools3 will detect it and change the start automatically to 0 and this issue is also logged.
