We need to setup an SMS gateway which can handle around 100000 users. I am a new to this, and need some advice on what modem/model and interface will be suitable for this requirement.

I do not recommend any exact modem/model, but usually modems based on Wavecom chip are good. Serial interface is often more reliable than USB. With large number of devices a LAN modem could be a good choice.
Sending of SMS takes about 5 - 12 seconds. With 64 modems on single server about 19000 - 46000 can be sent per hour. Is this enough for your application?
Also each SIM will have it's own GSM number and it cannot be changed. Is this acceptable?
