Smsd v3.1.14

What does smstools do when it starts up and the modem it's expecting isn't there.

I've unplugged the modem and restarted smstools. It gets to 'Checking if modem is ready', sends and AT, and then hangs.

Is there a timeout setting I've missed?

(The reason for this is for some basic warnings when things aren't working)
