I configured SMSC with this number 393287885527 (39 for italy) and I tried with command line sendsms, but the same result. What can I do? Rino

Type smsd -V to see the version number.
As far as I know, Siemens TC35 should work.
In the global part of smsd.conf you could define failed = /var/spool/sms/failed. Create this directory, make it writable for smsd and restart smsd. After a message is failed to send, there will be a file which contains a Fail_reason.
You can also define loglevel = 7 and show a piece of a log here. I can then see how the modem is acting when a message is tried to send.

You could try without setting the smsc, so default value stored in the SIM is used. But I think that this will not help. It seems that your device has a bad firmware version. First, even when ATE0 is used to set echo off, this device echoes all commands back. When reading a message, it accepts PDU mode but still returned a message in ASCII mode. It is possible that in the sending side too it uses ASCII mode even when PDU mode was set, and this causes the error. There is not much hope .

...using some terminal program and you sent SMS using ASCII mode? This surely may work, as your device did receiving successfully using ASCII mode too. ASCII mode is not and will be not supported by SMSTools. This is because ASCII mode is limited, and in some cases message is received in PDU mode even when ASCII mode was requested. Special characters in a message cause this. rinosan wrote but I don't know how can I write a bash or a simple program to make that... Do you know bash programming?
Take a look at the Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide, that's good.

Okay, you did it using ASCII mode... Perhaps you could try to upgrade the firmware, or even better get a new device...

Generally taken, modems based on Wavecom chip are good. I do not recommend any exact model. You may still use your current device, if you can find very old smsd version 1.x from somewhere. There has been a support for ASCII mode, but I do not know when it was removed. Also, the 1.x is not supported here in this forum . However, even when that 1.x is about 10 years old, it might be better than writing your own using Bash...

Like said, I do not recommend any exact model. And I do not know what modems you have available in Italy. Choose some device based on Wavecom chip. If it's not the cheapest one, still choose it . Low cost may lead to more work and problems.
