There is receiving problem after changing modem from Huawei E150 (MTS unlocked) to ZTE MF180 (beeline, probably not so good unlocked). Seems that ZTE MF180 does not support check_memory_method = CPMS. But it seems support CMGD: So I tried to set check_memory_method = 1..5 with no success. Modem does not receives SMS :-(. Is any idea how to make ZTE MF180 to receive SMS ? B.t.w. this modem has Beeline firmware. People recomend to reflash it with MTS firmware wich is better and has no some bugs, but I can not do this yet ...

Why do you think that CPMS is not supported? You could show a piece of a log with loglevel = 7, when smsd tries to receive SMS using CPMS. Also, use a modem setting report_device_details = yes, and show those details from the log. And first, of course be sure that at least one SMS is sent to the device. I'm thinking that perhaps messages are stored into different memory than what is used for reading. If you have any init string in the configuration, what kind is it?

Yesterday I have tried to enter in the minicom AT-command "AT+CPMS?" and the modem said "ERROR" but today response is: Now I get this while sending SMS on modem number: "Unexpected input: +ZOPERTER: 0,8A3088E8D8EE2840" - this because firmware of modem is beeline :-). It sends this periodicly everywhere, on minicom too. smsd.conf:

There are 14 messages received in ME memory. By default the modem uses SM memory for reading, and therefore messages are not read. Use the modem setting: init = AT+CPMS="ME","ME","ME"Later, after you have seen that messages were read properly, check_memory_method = 2 could be used as it's better and seems to work. warm wrote "Unexpected input: +ZOPERTER: 0,8A3088E8D8EE2840" - this because firmware of modem is beeline :-). I do not know how to disable this, but it would be good to disable. There is detect_unexpected_input = no available, but normally it should not be used because it affects to any unexpected input. Perhaps I should include some kind of a list, ignore_unexpected_input, in the next version.

Thanks! I have received all my test SMS after using init-string. Now modem works more better then before. AFAIK, ZOPERTER-string is a feature/bug/evel from beeline firmware. People write that modem can be reflashed with MTS firmware and after that there is no such issue. But I don't know how to reflash and also I'm afraid do this . P.S. There is another way: to buy Tele2 modem (Huawei E1550) wich seams is unlocked from the box. 490 rur = 16$. I did not know about it when I buy ZTE from beeline at 590 rur = 19$.

Did you install smsd from sources? In that case I could show a patch which makes smsd to ignore that ZOPERTER message.
Huawei devices have some issues and unexpected input too. If your ZTE now works well, just continue using it.

I installed from AUR - archlinux base for building packages that are not in any repo yet. It seems modem works fine now.
