I assume that everything worked well when running on SUSE, is this correct?

It looks like the driver of USB port is not installed properly. I cannot help with that issue.

Also, you had two daemons running simultaneously. Try to upgrade smsd, as later versions than 3.0.10 will prevent this kind of usage.

I'm not a maintainer of rpm packages .

Try to use Google with: "fedora core rpm smstools". You may find rpmseek.com which may give you rpm of 3.1.5. This version has the checking, with error message: "FATAL ERROR: Looks like another smsd (<pid>) is running. I (<pid>) quit now.". However, you do not need this version, if you just do not start smsd twice... And this version will not help with broken USB port...
