Hi,

after installing SMSTools 3.1.14 first time on ubuntu server 11.10. I´m only able to receive SMS notifications. I´ve tried different SIM cards which worked before.
At moment I can´t identify the problem. I tried to send messages by creating the files manually or with sendsms. The sendfiles are stored in the outgoing folder but
the file were not processed from the smsd. In the logfile of the smsd I only can find information about the received sms notications. There are no errors of about the send files. The singal quality is good.

I´ve some addtional information. When I create a new send file with sendsms a .LOCK is generated in the /checked folder. But still no sending or error information in the logfile.

i have a simular problem.

I'm using my old Samsung SGH D500 as modem. The phone is mounted at /dev/ttyACM0 in Ubuntu and/or Kubuntu 12.04.

SMSTools3 works fine, incoming messages are stored in incoming.

But I can not send messages. I tried sendsms +49NUMBER 'Hello Text' and I tried putting sms files into the outgoing dir.

Tried to run as service and in shell, both as root.

I thought, the connection to the phone is the problem, but incoming messages are handled right and I opend a serial console with GTKTerm @ /dev/ttyACM0 to test the GSM commands -> works.

The line : 2012-06-22 19:17:23,5, smsd: Outgoing file checker has started. PID: 3600.
Sound nice, but the PID does not exist. Only the main process smsd with PID 3603 exists.

I think this is the problem: The Outgoing file checker terminates immediately so smsd has no chance to be noticed for sending the files in /outgoing.

Anyone same problem? Or solutions?

problem solved.

I replaced the installation from sourcecode throught the installation from ubuntu package.

Now the Outgoing Checker keeps alive and everything works fine.

Ok, the case was solved for you, but the problem still exists and the cause is not explained.
I just wrote a new post with similar observations from 3.1.14.

The setup with 3.1.11 I had earlier is not working anymore in a similar machine with 3.1.14 with the same modem even though the two-way serial communication with the modem works and reception of SMS-messages work too.

If anybody has an explanation, please let the rest of the world know.

I confirm that for my part this problem seems to been solved in 3.1.15. I did not yet test receiving, but at least sending worked with the same smsd.conf I have had earlier.
I downloaded the 3.1.15 tar.gz-package and built it manually in just a couple of weeks ago shipped Raspberry Pi (Debian Wheezy).

However, it was not enough to have only these install steps:
make
make install

Additionally I had to manually create these directories
/var/spool/sms/failed
/var/spool/sms/sent
/var/log/smstools/smsd_stats

and of course modify the /etc/smsd.conf to match my system.

The service could be started in Debian wheezy manually after those mods like this:
/etc/init.d/sms3 start

Check also that your service is installed so that it automatically starts after boot.
