I use the tar -xzf or tar -xzvf command. But the install routine ist abort the execution.

The error message is the following text:

gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

What misstake am I doing?

Smsd installed from: smstools3-3.1.15.tar.gz
Name and model of a modem / phone: E220 Huawei
Interface: USB adapter
