A couple of weeks ago, I sent a Ping-SMS with Validity ~14 days to one of my numbers, remove the SIM and forgot it. Today I put the SIM into a modem and the SMSC sent me the requested feedback.

Immediately after the SMS is written to the disk, smsd dies w/o further notice. After restarting the same procedure. A "new" file is created in the incoming-folder, smsd crash.

To fix the problem I had to delete the Report-SMS in the SIM. Now smsd starts as expected w/o problems. Is this prob known?

What kind of eventhandler you do have, if any?

I was unable to reproduce this kind of error, even with datetime_format = %d.%m.%Y %T which you are using.

Please show your smsd.conf. I need to see some other settings.

You could test a ping message to your handset which is switched on and connected to the GSM network. The answer as status report should be received quickly. Does it also cause crash, or is it handled properly? The status 70 instead of 0 should not make any difference on the smsd side.

After an incoming message file is written and before the message is deleted from the SIM, there is only one thing that smsd does: it runs an eventhandler if it is defined. Assuming that you are using some kind of eventhandler, you could set loglevel to 7 and check from the log if eventhandler is never completed. You can also show the eventhandler here, use Private tag to protect it if necessary.
