Modem init Failed on Huawei E182E USB on Rasp III

Version of smsd
: ? installed last week: sudo apt install smstools
Smsd installed from: sources / package repository / from elsewhere...
Name and model of a modem / phone: Huawei E182E USB
Interface: serial / USB / some adapter... USB


Tried to send an Test SMS: Result:

I want to be able to send SMS for Alerting reasons. Do you have an idea whats wrong?

At this point the only thing that comes to mind is the modem port. What created the link /dev/ttyUSBmodem and where does it point?

In many cases, Huawei devices create three different ports, only one of which is fully usable with smstools. Do you have more than one port for the modem in your system and if so have you tried others?

Presumably the device is currently not responding at all. If it answers anything, I need to see what kind of communication there has been with the modem. The setting report_device_details exists just for such investigations, so also show the information it reports if the modem reports something
