I've followed the next steps:
# yum install usbutils gcc # wget http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.ossp.org/pkg/lib/mm/mm-1.4.2.tar.gz # tar -xzvf mm-1.4.2.tar.gz # cd mm-1.4.2/ # ./configure --prefix=/usr # make # make install # wget http://smstools3.kekekasvi.com/packages/smstools3-3.1.20.tar.gz # tar -xzvf smstools3-3.1.20.tar.gz # cd smstools3/ # vi src/Makefile (commented line: CFLAGS += -D NOSTATS) # make # make install

When I try to start smsd I get the following error:

 smsd: error while loading shared libraries: libmm.so.14: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory 

What can I do?

I'm not sure if this is a proper or elegant way, but this "dirty trick" should fix the issue:

# cp -p /usr/lib/libmm.* /usr/lib64/ # ln -sf /usr/lib64/libmm.so.14.0.22 /usr/lib64/libmm.so.14 # ln -sf /usr/lib64/libmm.so.14.0.22 /usr/lib64/libmm.so

Is it another proper solution for this problem?

As the OSSP mm Shared Memory Library (libmm) is last updated at 2006, it does not take care of lib64. However, when you compiled it, the result was a 64bit compilation. The OS does not get the object file from the /usr/lib, and therefore we copied files to /usr/lib64.

If you want to keep your system CentOS styled, you could do the following:

- delete files and links created to /usr/lib64/
- delete the current smstools installation
- install CentOS 7 packages: mm-1.4.2, mm-devel-1.4.2 and smstools-3.1.15

Then you have CentOS styled smstools running without root privileges, but it is 3.1.15. Just replace the executable /usr/sbin/smsd with your 3.1.20 and your system is up to date.
