Hi
I am interesting what is the safe way to start / stop smsd service in Cygwin environment.
Is it safe to use "net start / stop ..." for this ?

The script sms3 is the most safe way and can be used in Cygwin too. It will wait until all message parts are sent. In case of failure it will kill smsd hardly after 45 seconds.
If you do not have outgoing traffic with very long messages, net stop is safe enough. It does not kill smsd hardly, even if it takes couple of minutes to send all message parts and this means lot of parts. Net stop may say that stopping failed, however the modem process will stop after all message parts are sent.
On Windows shutdown it's not guaranteed that there is time enough to send remaining message parts. With short messages (e.g. 160 or 320 characters) this is not a problem. If the server is used to send much longer messages, the front-end application should be stopped first before shutting down Windows.

Thank you , keke !
I have one last question on this subject : whether sms3 script could be used to stop smsd running as windows service?

The script sms3 can be safely used to stop smsd which was started as Windows service. This is because pidfile and infofile defaults to same values which are used inside the script. Windows will see that service has stopped and show the changed state.
However this does not work vice versa. Smsd started by sms3 script is not shown as a Windows service because cygrunsrv is missing. Therefore Windows cannot stop smsd but can start another one which will cause fatal failure.
