It seems that you have already tried everything, and I do not have any exact instructions to resolve your problem . In some cases, ports listed in XP did not work, but the modem worked when it was defined to use another port number (which was not listed). If this is the case in your machine, you could just try every port number. It's a big job, but I do not know other methods to find the hidden port. You can start smsd using a communication mode: smsd -C GSM1 and then define a port and type AT and Enter to see if that port number works. You may need to type AT twice for each port. When you do not get an OK answer, stop the communication using Ctrl-C and start again with another port number. You could also test your cable and phone in another machine, to see if they are broken.

thanks boss.
I have tried changing the ports and got success one time only .. next time I reconnect the modem and the things go wrong again . Is there any way that I can assign a device permanently to one COM port so that i dont need to change the settings all the tim eI reconnect the device to the PC. Or what do u suggest ? do I need to change the OS ? if yes then which one I can change to ?? I do not have a good experience with UNIX based OS's.
Thanks once again for such a lovely piece of work.. and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Under Windows and Cygwin, I do not know, but I assume that there is no such kind of possibility. almaruf wrote Or what do u suggest ?
Sorry, I have no any suggestions left... almaruf wrote do I need to change the OS ? if yes then which one I can change to ?? I do not have a good experience with UNIX based OS's.
If you can change the OS, it would be great for your SMS server system . Good experience is not a problem, it will improve over time. Also, with Cygwin you anyway need some Unix experience... You could download, burn a CD, and test Live Linux distributions for example from Debian and/or Ubuntu. You can run them without making any changes to your harddisk, while testing. With Google you can get good instructions for usage, but here is a very short howto : - Start the Live Linux without your phone cable connected. - After desktop and menus are ready for use, locate a program named Terminal and start it. - Become a root: sudo su -- Install Smstools3: apt-get install smstools- Stop the daemon: /etc/init.d/smstools stop (it has an incorrect port setting for you) - Connect your phone cable. - After 10-20 seconds, use a command dmesg to see what is the name of a port. - Edit /etc/smsd.conf and change the device = ...- Start the daemon: /etc/init.d/smstools start- In Debian, logs are in /var/log/smstools directory. Check them, and when everything seems to be ok, you should be able to send and receive SMS messages...

Assuming that you phone has a coverage, even when bit error rate is not detectable, you may need to specify smsc in the modem settings. Write the phone number of the SMSC in international format without the starting "+".
If this does not help, check the destination number. Probably it's illegal.
I assume that you can send messages with this SIM using your phone, right?

Hhello Boss, I have used successfully the system with Windows and Cygwin to send sms to many recepients. the problem was with the number format ans smsc I defined correctly now and it works . For help to other people the number format I used succesfully is +44 7943000000 Dont use the leading zero and the other one that usually we put before starting the actual local number as my number is 07943773200 .. but when I am using the SMSTools3 I used +447943773200 and that works for me ...... and also the smsc number is better defined I think .... thanks a lot lot for this excellent system ....... CHEERS !!!!!!
