Operating system name and version: Ubuntu 10.10 Version of smsd: 3.1.14 Smsd installed from: sources Name and model of a modem / phone: Medion S4011 (Aldi talk) Interface: USB hey folks, first of all: thx for developing smstools3 it is a rly nice tool! i have some trouble with my medion S4011. it worked fine last week right after installing smstools. now it seems that the modem couldn't connect. i tried a different sim card from another carrier but it didn't help. the led is blinking though. what really scares me, is that an umts connection works. edit: log: conf: # Example smsd.conf. Read the manual for a description
devices = GSM1 logfile = /var/log/smsd.log loglevel = 7
[GSM1] device = /dev/ttyUSB1 incoming = yes pin = xxxx 'smsdconf' Syntax Highlight powered by GeSHi do you have any ideas what i can try or change to get it up running? thx in advance!!! « Last edit by obelix on Wed Jan 26, 2011 15:11, 168 months ago. »

As the signal strength is good, it probably is not a problem. This stick seems to be Huawei E160, which does not support detection of Bit Error Rate. You can use the modem setting signal_quality_ber_ignore = yes to skip the logging of BER.
Perhaps the stick is broken, or some setting (frequency, band or something) has changed after it worked last week. You could try to perform complete reset for the stick.
To get more information about your stick, you can use the modem setting report_device_details = yes. Because of failure with the registration, you will also need a setting check_network = 0 while listing details. Version 3.1.14 and below will not list details to the log if the registration fails.

Those are periodic status messages, and the command disables all of them.
Now you get CMS 500 because of registration failure. Have you tried to reset the stick?
