Operating system name and version: Linux Lubuntu-eee 3.2.0-38-generic-pae #61-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 19 12:39:51 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Version of smsd: 3.1.15 Smsd installed from: sources Name and model of a modem: Huawei e353 (12d1:1442 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.) Interface: USB I can send message from USB dongle to the phone. But I can't receive. I can check received messages from the Web UI (192.168.1.1), but smsd does not collect them from dongle to hard drive. Here is my conf file. Older model Huawei e160 seems to work just fine, but not to me this newer model. Best Regards Asmo Koskinen.

Huawei devices usually provides more than one interfaces and incoming messages are not shown with all of these. Use dmesg to see what interfaces are provided, and try to use some other than the first USB0.
If this does not help, send two SMS to your device and restart smsd with a modem setting report_device_details = yes. The log will show what there is and where, if anywhere.

Thank you, Keke. Here is what I did try. [ 408.441262] usb 1-3: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0 [ 408.444757] usb 1-3: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1 If I try USB1 I got this. Here is my conf file with working USB0. USB1 does not work (put_command expected (OK)|(ERROR), timeout occurred.)? With USB0 I got these ones. No messages to receive. Sending messages with USB0 is ok. Best Regards Asmo Koskinen. « Last edit by asmok on Sat Mar 02, 2013 07:19, 135 months ago. »

No change - USB1. With USB0 I can send (for example by playSMS). But no received messages from dongle. Best Regards Asmo Koskinen.

Great to see that you have a working device for your journey . I do not know what is wrong with e353. In this forum one member has used it successfully, but under Windows/Cygwin. I have e153, and it provides five ports. However right now I cannot test which ports are working or not.
